Before we talk about strengths and weaknesses we have to realise one thing, have you ever thought about why these Interviewers always want to know “What’s your strengths and weaknesses”.

In every interview almost every time they ask the troublesome question, what they will do after knowing?

So let’s discuss remarkable points that are extremely valuable to know and always remember these points while practising this question.

1) Do you know your strength or not?

The main motive of the hiring manager of asking this question is have you know your strengths or weaknesses or not?

2) Do you acknowledge your weaknesses

Basically, we all have to admit we all have weaknesses but do you acknowledge your weaknesses or not that is more important. Interviewers want to listen to your acknowledgements of what you have done to eliminate your weaknesses.

3) Could you do the job well?

The interviewer wants to see if there’s anything unique about you that’ll help you perform well in the job.

They want to hear your perspective on this. What do you bring to the table? What relevant experience do you have?

4) Are you an asset or a liability

Companies are paying you a very high income so the interviewer wants to hear if you are an asset or not. The company needs you to have a mindset to take the company to the next level.

5) Hidden personality trait that is not in the resume.

This is also an option what the interviewer wants to hear in your response. Interviewers want to go beyond what you have shared with them on your resume. They want to know about the person behind the work history. This will help your interviewer determine whether you’re a good match for the job and the organization.

First: What’re Your Weaknesses?

In the interview round when a Hiring manager is asking about your strengths and weaknesses it’s a good habit to start with your weaknesses so that at the end of your response you should end with positive strength. It will be a good impact on the interviewer.

To begin with, we have to admit one thing is we all have weaknesses you can’t say that you don’t have any flaws. You have to think about your weakness( not too many that is also not good).

Furthermore, before giving your response try to read the job description very well. It’s very important to read the requirement of the job.

For e.g., If the company has the requirement of an employer who has good communication skills then you cannot say this is your weakness otherwise you will be definitely rejected.

Preparation and having a response ready are pre-eminent to a successful job interview. When thinking about your weaknesses, it’s essential to choose the response that you are proactively working on or demonstrate steps you are taking to turn that weakness into a strength.

  1. Sometimes, I find it hard to manage my time and cut too close to the deadlines. To overcome this, I have started using post-it that I stick on my laptop. Even I organise my calendar to include my daily, weekly and long term tasks so that I prioritise my work better.
  2. I am incredibly introverted, which makes me wary of sharing my ideas in a group setting or speaking up during team meetings. I feel that I had good intentions, I just wasn’t always comfortable speaking up. After my team didn’t meet expectations on two consecutive projects, I decided to start making changes to get more familiar with sharing my ideas for the benefit of my team. I took local improv classes and started trying to get comfortable discussing my thoughts. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s something that I’ve improved dramatically over the past year.
  3. My inability to say no puts me under a lot of stress at times. However, I am learning to say NO that I can focus more on productive tasks.

Second: What’re Your Strengths?

Now it comes about the strengths so you need to be specific. It sounds very simple to talk about strengths you just have to assess your skills to identify your essential strengths.

To begin with, you have to explain why it’s your strength? why you feel so? See it’s very easy to make a list of strengths but you have to explain every point. For e.g., if you are multitasking so you have given a strong example to the interviewer.

Furthermore, it’s very important to showcase your strengths related to the job profile. As I have already told you to read the job specification so that you can reveal the skill set for the job as your strengths with influential examples.

When the time comes to answer this question, you’ll need to be very realistic. Take stock of what you believe to be your personal strengths or ask a friend to help you identify what you’re good at.

  1. I am a quick learner. Over the past 3 years, I have worked on 3 different technologies. As the lead of my team, I even had the oppurtunity to learn about the sales while talking to new customers. It is my motto in life to learn something new every day and I actively seek feedback to keep growing.
  2. Whenever new software is released, I’m always the first one to test and get familiar with it. I love pushing the edge and learning every aspect of the new software. In fact, just last week I found a software issue with one of my video games. I called the developer, and they fixed it right away. This position will give me the opportunity to apply my passion and help make programs better for your company. 
  3. Well talking about my strength, I am good at multi-tasking. In my college I was a part of the Cricket Team. I also organised college cultural festivals. But, I still managed to get good marks/grades all through my final year.
